Reliance Power starts operations at 40MW solar plant in India

The project was financed from a $48m loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB).

ADB director Private Sector Operations Department Michael Barrow said, "The 40-megawatt plant is expected to produce more than 60 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year, enough to light up more than 70,000 average Indian households, while avoiding more than 60,000 metric tons of harmful carbon dioxide emissions per year."

The 350-acre plant employs 500,000 solar panels and is located 180km west of the city of Jodhpur.

ADB said the new plant is part of its goal to develop finance or commission 3,000MW of solar energy generation capacity in Asia by May 2013.

Reliance Power will also receive a $103m loan from ADB to help build the Rajasthan Concentrating Solar Power Project, which will be located near the Dahanu plant.
