The contract has been awarded for Teck’s Highland Valley Copper Mill Optimization project in British Columbia, Canada.
Fluor Corp Mining & Metals business line head Rick Koumouris said the company intends to continue with the next phase of the Mill Optimization project building on the success of its early study work for Teck.
"As part of the new life of mine plan, these new facilities and upgrades of existing infrastructure will help extend the life of Highland Valley Copper through 2026," said Koumouris.
Flour will provide a new pebble crushing facility and a new flotation building with 300 cubic meter tank cells.
The existing grinding circuit, tailings and water supply system will also be refurbished.
Flour said the Highland Valley Copper is an open-pit mine operation which produces copper and molybdenum concentrates through the use of a milling and flotation plant.
Copper recovery will increase by 2% and increase mill output by 10%, following the optimization project.
Fluor office in Vancouver will manage the contract work for which the company completed the pre-feasibility study.
