Statoil will utilize Ocean Vanguard drilling rig to drill the well 16/2-12 to a planned depth of 2,060m below mean sea level, in order to prove the presence of oil bearing Jurassic sandstones similar to the Johan Sverdrup discovery.

The drilling is expected to continue for 40 days.

Operator Statoil holds 40% interest in the PL265 license, while partners Lundin Norway, Petoro and Det norske oljeselskap hold 10%, 30% and 20% stakes, respectively, in the license.
