The new 1,000MW power plant project, which was awarded to Malakoff in June 2011, will bolster Tanjung Bin’s current generating capacity of 2,100MW to a total combined capacity of 3,100MW.
The plant will be constructed with the sophisticated technology, including supercritical steam turbine and generator, boiler and plant auxiliaries.
After the completion of expansion, the company will be making the generating capacity available to the off taker, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Operation and maintenance for the power plant will be provided by Malakoff’s wholly-owned subsidiary Teknik Janakuasa, under a long-term O&M agreement.
Energy Commission chairman Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali said that the new Tanjung Bin project will help the government’s effort in boosting the development of the Iskandar region.
"The project will certainly bring a huge multiplier effect to the economy, particularly in the Southern Region," Ali added.
Tanjung Bin Power Plant’s close proximity to the Iskandar Economic Corridor will also result in lower transmission losses and better utilization of the grid system.
