The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
Itron smart meters and data collection system will be used by CPFL to manage the meters remotely, identify problems, address them, gather measurement data at regular intervals, and reduce non-technical losses.
CPFL group Automation and Operative Processes manager Mauro Carmello said the company will optimize services and reduce operational costs.
"Itron is a global company that specializes in smart energy metering solutions and will contribute its experience, cutting-edge technology and local support to our program," Carmello said.
Itron Latin America Energy Group general manager Gadner Vieira said CPFL needed a solution to support their specific needs.
"The Itron solution, in addition to flexible data collection and communication systems, includes the latest-generation SL 7000 meter," Vieira added.
"It combines the versatility and reliability that is necessary for CPFL’s clients,"
CPFL is installing the meters and is expecting to complete the installation of the project in 2013.
Once, the installation is done CPFL will integrate the Itron meters with its meter data management and billing system to form a unified metering platform which will serve as the foundation for future smart grid initiatives.
