
The well, which is expected to target the Langlitinden prospect, is situated around 80km northeast of the Snøhvit Field in the Barents Sea.
The company said that the main objective of the well is to prove the presence of hydrocarbons in sandstones of the Triassic Kobbe Fm.
The Langlitinden prospect is expected to have the potential to contain unrisked, gross prospective resources of 220 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe), according to Lundin.
The well will be drilled using the drilling rig Transocean Barents and is expected to have a total depth of 2,901m below mean sea level, while drilling is expected to take around 50 days.
Lundin Norway has 20% stake in PL659, while other partners are Det norske oljeselskap (operator) with 20%, Petoro with 30%, Atlantic Petroleum Norge and Tullow Oil Norge with 10% each, as well as Rocksource Exploration Norway and Ithaca Petroleum hold 5% stake each.
