The TransAlta, MidAmerican Transmission joint venture was short-listed by Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) to participate in the next stage of competitive process for the project.
TAMA Transmission president Cynthia Johnston said the transmission project will provide needed infrastructure to support the growth and prosperity of the province.
”The combination of TransAlta’s home-market expertise with MidAmerican’s superb transmission construction management and operating skills, positions us to serve Albertans with competitive, low-cost and reliable transmission infrastructure,” Johnston added.
Expected to be in service by 2019, the Fort McMurray West 500kV Transmission Project consists of approximately 500km of transmission line and associated facilities between the Edmonton and Fort McMurray regions.
A winning proponent will be named by the AESO in December 2014.
Other companies selected to build, finance, own and operate the transmission line include Alberta PowerLine, Athabasca Transmission, NorSpan Partners, and TransCanada/Elecnor.
