The three stacked reservoirs of the exploration well have demonstrated a combined audited mean estimate of 1,609 million barrels of oil resources as at 31 May 2012, which includes a major oil discovery in the Oligocene reservoir.
WesternZagros’s chief executive officer Simon Hatfield said the test results make it evident that Kurdamir and the neighboring Tophkana structure have common oil accumulations.
"We look forward to the remainder of the Kurdamir-2 testing program, focusing on the shallower Eocene reservoir and our main target of the Oligocene reservoir," Hatfield said.
The company, along with the operator of the well, Talisman, plans to perform a 3D seismic program over the Kurdamir and Topkhana structures for Kurdamir-3 well and conduct a cased hole testing program on 275 metres of gross oil pay.
WesternZagros and Talisman have 40% working interest each in the Kurdamir Block, while the remaining 20% is held by Kurdistan Regional Government.
