The company currently expects to produce 464 million tonnes of coal during the 2012-2013 financial year having increased from 435.84 million tonnes in 2011-2012.
Coal India Chairman S Narsing Rao remarked that the 8% capacity enhancing will be achieved over the country’s 12th five year plan that runs through 2017.
"We had a cumulative production of 180 million tonnes over the last three five-year plan periods," said Rao.
CIL’s increased production is estimated to generate 615 million tonnes by 2016-17 with the company having selected 142 new projects consisting of 107 open cast and 35 underground projects possessing an annual capacity to produce 380.22 million tonnes.
