The system at Light Energia began commercial operation in July, while another system at Light SESA is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2012.
The two companies are putting in place a complete automation program to cater to the distribution management needs of the state’s network.
Initially, there will be up to 400,000 equipment control and network connection points which would expand to over 800,000 as the program is deployed.
Alstom Grid Latin America Region VP Sergio Gomes highlighted that Brazil is facing significant challenges in energy sector, which needs to be modernized.
"e-terraplatform is designed to meet the needs of increasingly complex electrical power grids, providing a reliable, highly available and flexible solution for energy management," Gomes added.
This platform allows operators to monitor the entire grid network, including the automated underground systems.
