The company has leased Armada Claire, floating production storage and offload unit (FPSO), from Malaysia-based offshore oilfield services provider Bumi Armada to produce light sweet crude from the Balnaves oilfield, reported Reuters.
Earlier this month, Bumi Armada has completed conversion of the FPSO from a very large crude carrier, while production is expected to begin in April.
However, Apache’s spokesman clarified that the FPSO is yet to depart from Keppel’s shipyard in Singapore.
The company holds a 65% stake in the Balnaves oilfield that is located in the Northern Carnavon basin, while Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration holds the remaining stake.
The oilfield has a field life of about five years with production expected to peak at 30,000bpd.
