Major projects include building new circuits, underground cables replacement, inspection and replacement of utility poles and ongoing tree trimming programs.
Met-Ed regional president Mike Doran said "The infrastructure projects completed in recent years resulted in the company’s 2013 reliability numbers being among the best it has ever reported."
"Whether it’s installing equipment that can be operated remotely, or spending on tree trimming, our ultimate goal is to continue to enhance the reliability of our system to benefit our customers," Doran added.
Additional projects will include the installation of automated and remote control devices designed to enhance Met-Ed’s electrical system and reliability.
Around $30m of the total is scheduled to be spent on transmission-related projects built and owned by Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line Company, a FirstEnergy transmission affiliate.
The latest investment represents about a $55m increase compared to what the company invested in similar infrastructure in the region last year.
