The wind farm is located in the municipalities of Saint-Maxime-du-Mont-Louis and Sainte-Madeleine-de-la-Rivière-Madeleine, in the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec and its final phase consists of 74 wind turbines.
With a total capacity of 111MW the turbines can generate 341,135MWh of energy annually, equivalent to the electricity needs of 20,000 homes in Quebec.
Gros-Morne was officially commissioned on 6 November 2012 and this phase signifies the last of the 5-phase Cartier Wind Energy project, owned 62% by TransCanada and 38% by Innergex.
Hydro-Quebec will procure the total energy produced at the plant under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Innergex Renewable president and chief executive officer Michel Letellier stated, "The commissioning of Phase II of Gros-Morne completes Cartier Wind Energy’s development program, which encompasses 589.5 MW of gross installed wind energy capacity in Quebec."
