A deployment skid is needed to lift subsea control modules (SCM) and module running tools (MRT).

IDAC conducted an analysis of two designs of the skid, a base model and a braced model, under two different conditions called the static condition and the impact condition.

The analysis was carried out using the engineering simulation softwares called ANSYS and ANSYS LS-Dyna.

The results of the study by IDAC demonstrated that braced model had significant effect on the behavior of the deployment skid both under the static condition and dynamic conditions.

Since the real time crash testing under the dynamic condition would not be cost-effective, IDAC executed the finite element analysis to test the behaviour of the virtual prototype. This resulted in cost-effective test results without manufacturing a skid prototype.
