The Coal Authority undertakes various responsibilities including licensing UK coal mining operations, handling coal mining subsidence damage claims, providing public access to information on past and present coal mining operations and support for emergency surface hazards among others.
Energy Minister John Hayes announced the appointment stating, "Mr Dingle has five years exemplary service as Chair of the Coal Authority’s Audit committee and I’m delighted now to appoint him Chair of the Authority.
"The Authority will benefit from his extensive knowledge of the industry and his consummate expertise in both the private and public sectors."
Dingle will serve as chair for a four year period and assume office on 1 April 2013.
