The firm is building a 122-mile, 345kV, double-circuit line from Spearville south into Clark County and then east to the city of Medicine Lodge in Kansas.
The $302m project, which is referred to as the Kansas V-Plan by ITC, is expected to go online by the end of 2014.
ITC Great Plains said it was collaborating with Kansas utilities Sunflower Electric and Mid-Kansas Electric on the V-Plan project.
Sunflower and Mid-Kansas CEO Stuart Lowry commented, "Upon completion of the V-Plan, we will have made great strides in expanding our ability to import and export both baseload and renewable energy throughout the region."
Kansas Electric Transmission Authority (KETA) chairman Carl Holmes said, "ITC Great Plains’ completion of the KETA project and its launch of the V-Plan show a high level of commitment to strengthening the high-voltage grid in Kansas."
Prairie Wind Transmission, a joint venture of Electric Transmission America and US-based electric utility Westar Energy, will construct another leg from Medicine Lodge to the city of Wichita in Kansas.
