Modernisation work is being carried out under a €65m contract awarded by energy supplier Elektroprivreda Srbije.
Voith Hydro in St. Pölten managing director Dr. Leopold Heninger said, "Voith supplied two turbines to Zvornik back when the plant was built 50 years ago.
"We are very pleased that we have once more gained the trust of Elektroprivreda Srbije to support the modernization project."
Voith said that the overhaul will not only improve performance and efficiency, but also reduce long-term maintenance costs.
The modernisation will increase the Zvornik plant’s output from 96 to 124MW.
