The new discovery in the Savonette gas field is estimated to have about 1 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, which has doubled the expected gas in the field to 2tcf.

The company drilled the Savonette 4 appraisal well to a total depth of 18,678ft into the untested fault block located east to the original discovery well in the gas field and encountered hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs in two intervals along with the discovered gas.

bpTT Developments president and executive vice president Norman Christie said, "This is exciting news for both bpTT and the industry since this represents the largest discovery for bpTT since 2005."

Production at the new gas discovery has begun and the appraisal well is flowing at about 225 million standard cubic feet of gas a day (mmscf/d), going up to 250mmscf/d.

The company is also proposing to drill two additional wells into the Savonette reservoirs, which if successful, will be brought into production in the next 12 to 18 months.

bpTT holds 100% interest in the appraisal well.
