A new transformer with greater capacity has been installed as part of the project, which also includes improvements that will allow for a greater capability to reroute power and support other distribution lines to improve the systems reliability and redundancy.
Guam Power Authority Engineering Manager Joven Acosta was quoted by Pacific News Center as saying that the project is part of a $70m upgrade for the Island Wide Power System to improve power quality and reliability.
"The funds are part of GPA Revenue Bonds issued in 2010 for major capital improvement projects (CIPs) to enhance GPA’s power services to its customers," Acosta added.
The upgrade also involved enhancement of transformer health diagnostics, as well as installation of a new transformer containment pad to comply with environmental protection regulations.
