As part of the agreement, Enercon will assume an equity position in NuScale and will utilize its licensing expertise to support the development of the design certification application (DCA).

Enercon president John Richardson said, "We are proud to join with NuScale to help the nuclear industry move forward with this important new technology."

NuScale Power chairman and CEO John Hopkins said the company is pleased to add Enercon to its growing team of partners who are committed to the successful deployment of Small Modular Reactor nuclear energy technology.

"ENERCON’s experience and capabilities in the areas of new plant licensing will be a powerful asset moving forward," Hopkins added.

NuScale Power Module is a smaller, scalable version of pressurized water reactor (PWR) technology, and uses natural forces to operate and cool the plant, eliminating the need for multiple large and complex systems required in existing nuclear plants.
