The well, located 80km offshore from the Faroe Islands, was drilled by using the COSL Pioneer semi-submersible rig in June in a water depth of around 450m.
It is the second exploraion well drilled on Faroese license 006, which covers an area of about 579km².
The Faroese authorities have authorized a suspension of the well until the end of 2013, Statoil said in a press statement.
Statoil Færøyene holds 50% interest in the Brugdan license, while its partner ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Faroe Islands owns 49% stake, and the remaining 1% is held by Atlantic Petroleum.
Statoil has been operating in the Faroe Island since 2000 and it now holds a significant acreage position with 6 operated licences.
