Issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through its Technical Review Committee, the invoice is a pre-cursor to receiving the final environmental permit, and enables the company to apply for a temporary mining permit and start early works at the site, if it decides to progress with the Esaase deposit as part of Phase 1.
Asanko will now finalize its EIS to incorporate the comments of the invoice, and submit it to the EPA for final permitting, which will occur in due course.
Awarded by the Ghanaian Water Resources Commission (WRC), the three key water use permits will enable the company to abstract boreholes for domestic, construction and operations purposes at the Esaase site.
The permits are valid for an initial period of three years and can be renewed thereafter.
Commenting on permits, Asanko Gold president and CEO Peter Breese said, "This means that in addition to our fully permitted Phase 1 project, we now have a second site that has passed the necessary hurdles as required by the Ghanaian regulatory authorities."
