Mwana Africa has produced 12,383cts of diamonds at the Klipspringer Mine in South Africa for the quarter ended 31 March, 2014.
The company said that retreatment of the Marsfontein slimes dam at the property helped it achieve the production at an average price of $21 per carat.
During the period, gold production at Freda Rebecca Gold Mine in Zimbabwe rose by 2% to 13,380oz, compared to 13,072oz in the previous quarter driven by improved milled tons and feed grade.
Nickel in concentrate sales increased 9.5% from a year ago to 2,207 tons from Trojan mines owned by Bindura Nickel in which Mwana Africa holds a 75.4% stake.
Mwana CEO Kalaa Mpinga said that both gold and nickel production increased, reflecting higher tonnage mined and milled, and diamond production from the Klipspringer Slimes Retreatment Project more than doubled quarter on quarter.
"We anticipate that at Freda Rebecca, the current focus on mining and processing efficiencies, and at BNC continued progress by Trojan Mine towards steady-state and stronger mill performance, will deliver further operational improvements for the Group in the year ahead."
