Associated Press cited a company spokesman Paul Copleman as saying, "While we continue to make significant progress resolving various outstanding issues at our Groton wind farm, our experience with that situation combined with the current political and regulatory climate in New Hampshire leave us no choice but to end our efforts to develop and invest $150 million at the potential Wild Meadows wind farm."
The dispute with the state’s Department of Environmental Services over the 48MW Groton project led the company to end the development of the project, which could feature 36 Gamesa G97-2MW turbines.
Company officials said that the new wind plant would provide power which is enough to about 30,000 average homes a year and up to 90,000 homes per year at peak production.
In addition to creating jobs, the plant is expected to offer large financial benefits to taxpayers in both towns, The Union Leader reported.
Some groups have opposed the project claiming that the project would ruin the natural beauty state and the wind power is not an economical answer to the power challenges of the region.
