According to the company, it is installing three three-phase gas-insulated high voltage line (GIL) systems, each with a length of 350m, as a link between the machine transformers in the power plant cavern and the high voltage switchgear for connecting to the overhead line.

The company claims that, the 305-meter high dam wall of the power plant is the highest structure of its kind in the world.

The high voltage transmission system can transmit 3,500MVA of power at a voltage of 550kV. The order was placed by Ertan Hydropower Development Company, Chengdu. The GIL is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2012, said Siemens.

Udo Niehage, CEO of the power transmission division in Siemens Energy sector, said: “With our GIL technology, large amounts of power can be transmitted even where extremely limited space is available. We are thus supporting the creation of sustainable energy systems in China with this project too.”
