The Mahogany Deep-2 well was drilled about 3km west of the Mahogany-3 well, Kosmos’ Mahogany Deep discovery well, to appraise the down-dip extent of oil pools found in Mahogany-3. The company said that the Mahogany Deep-2 well represents the furthest down-dip appraisal well drilled by Kosmos on the West Cape Three Points license to date.
The results of drilling, wireline logs and reservoir fluid samples show the Mahogany Deep-2 well encountered 15mts of combined pay in high-quality sandstones. The majority of the pay appears to be in static pressure communication with reservoirs of a similar geological age that were penetrated in previous Mahogany appraisal wells.
20mts of high-quality but water-bearing reservoirs were encountered at the Mahogany Deep stratigraphic level. An additional oil sample was recovered from a deeper zone not previously encountered in any of Kosmos’ wells drilled to date.
Kosmos and its block partners are undertaking additional studies to evaluate the existing and new zones encountered in the Mahogany Deep-2 well.
The Mahogany Deep-2 well was drilled by the Aban Abraham to a current depth of 4,326mts in a water depth of 1,354mts.
