The firms, which include Dominion, Duke Energy, Exelon and PSEG, will share a common interest in order to ensure the technical advancement and demonstration of the fuel for the US market.

Starting in spring 2015, one of the utilities will operate a set of eight lead test assemblies, as part of the program.

The innovative GAIA fuel assembly design will offer cost-savings for utilities through its high mechanical fretting resistance, better thermal performance and increased tolerance to earthquakes.

Additionally, the design features advanced cladding which will meet the potential changes in US regulatory requirements.
