In November 2009, Vattenfall reopened the bidding process for its 9,500km power transmission grid after failing to agree on major issues with a consortium comprising Deutsche Bank, Allianz and Goldman Sachs. The consortium had offered about EUR500m for the transmission grid, The Wall Street Journal reported citing a Dow Jones report.
However, the purchase price was said to be a key issue on which Vattenfall failed to agree and the company broadened the grid sale to other potential bidders in November last year.
Elia transmits electricity from producers to distribution system operators and industrial users. The company also imports and exports electrical energy to and from Belgium’s neighbouring countries.
