Italy has agreed two gas supply deal with Algerian state firm Sonatrach, the BBC has reported, citing local media sources.

According to Algerian newspaper El Watan, the BBC states, Italy has cemented long-term deals to be supplied with a total volume of three billion cubic meters of natural gas by the North African country’s state gas and oil marking outfit.

One billion cubic meters will be piped to Italy’s largest power firm, Enel. Meanwhile, the remaining two billion cubic meters of natural gas will be supplied to Sonatrach Gas Italia. The Italian subsidiary of the Algerian state company will sell the gas direct onto the Italian market.

The reported supply deals further cement Italy as the primary destination for foreign-shipped Algerian natural gas.
