Alexey Miller, chairman of the Gazprom management committee, and Lord John Browne, chief executive of the BP Group, lead the meeting. Also attending the conference was Tony Hayward, chief executive of BP’s exploration & production.
The parties addressed issues relating to their bilateral cooperation and discussed, among other things, the possibility of creating a joint venture to develop the international business of the companies, including in the LNG sector.
The talks come just a matter of weeks after stories emerged that Gazprom might be looking to aggressively wrestle control of a BP energy project in Siberia away from the UK firm, in a move reminiscent of the saga that ended in Gazprom becoming a major shareholder in Shell’s Sakhalin project.
