Gas Natural and the Community of Madrid have signed a new co-operation agreement to encourage the replacement of domestic appliances that are over 10 years old or defective with condensing boilers. To do this, both parties will contribute around E1.2 million, representing up to E300 towards the cost of each appliance installed.
According to the company, the aim of the agreement is to encourage the efficient use of energy and concern for the environment through the replacement of old gas appliances with safer and more energy efficient boilers.
In condensing boilers, the water vapor produced by the combustion gases is condensed back into liquid.
Gas Natural said that in a conventional boiler this water vapor escapes via a flue or discharge, but in condensing boilers it is turned back into energy. This reportedly produces energy consumption savings of up to 30% and a reduction of up to 70% in emissions of NOx and CO2.
This campaign is in addition to the Plan Renove program to replace domestic gas appliances, an initiative which the two entities have carried out since 2005 to replace boilers that are over ten years old or which are defective with more modern appliances. Since its launch, around 1.9 million euros have been invested in the program, to which now be added the nearly 1.9 million euros that will be spent during this year’s campaign, said the company.
