The extended share offer expired on March 30, 2007, by which time Shell Investments Limited (SIL) had acquired an additional 75,711,093 common shares in the capital of Shell Canada.

When combined with the 96,985,322 Shell Canada common shares that SIL acquired during the initial offer period that ended on March 16, 2007, SIL and its affiliates' interest in Shell Canada now amounts to approximately 98.8% of the Canadian unit's shares.

This figure broke the 90% threshold that allows SIL to go ahead with its full takeover bid. The Shell subsidiary will now exercise its right to acquire the outstanding common shares of Shell Canada not already owned by SIL and its affiliates at the same price of C$45.00 per common share.

The Canadian Globe and Mail reported industry analysts as speculating that, although the impending takeover may relocate Shell Canada's decision-making capacity to Royal Dutch Shell headquarters elsewhere, the buyout is unlikely to have a significant impact on the Canadian company's operations.
