Under the contract, Ecosse Subsea will clear seabed cable routes for the Westermost Rough wind farm in the UK North Sea.

Offshore operations have already begun on the Westermost Rough development, located 8km off the Yorkshire coast, east of Hull and is expected to conclude in Q3 2014.

Expected to provide enough electricity to power more than 200,000 UK homes, the £800m Westermost Rough wind farm will feature 35 turbines of 6MW capacity, covering a total area of 35km2.

A highly innovative SCAR subsea boulder clearance system will be deployed by ESS on up to 35 array cable routes.

The Scar boulder clearance system will be mounted on the anchor-handling vessel Havila Jupiter and will be assisted by underwater robots.

Ecosse Subsea Systems commercial director Keith McDermott said: "This contract follows on the completion of successful field trials on the Westermost Rough offshore wind farm project.
