The company, in its 2010 filings with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, estimated the facility would generate 80,000MW hours of electricity annually, which is enough to provide power to about 13,000 homes.
Halcyon Tidal Power president the CEO Ted Verrill said by phone that the company has been approved an extension of its initial preliminary FERC permit a few months ago.
In order to assess potential environmental impacts, the company and its consultants have proposed over 45 studies associated with the project which will begin late this year or in early 2015, Verrill said.
The data analyzed, and the findings will be submitted to FERC for its approval for the project in mid-2016.
Construction expected to commence as early as 2016, the project could be operating by late 2017 or early 2018.
