The project will help CenturyLink reduce the energy use of its Chicago CH2 data center by 7.4 million kWh per year.
ComEd said the project is part of its Smart Ideas for Your Business energy efficiency program, which provides financial incentives and technical assistance to help customers become more sustainable.
CenturyLink started the multi-year project to upgrade and refurbish the majority of CH2’s mechanical equipment, serving the 125,000ft² data center.
ComEd will provide the financial incentives to CenturyLink for upgrading data center CRAC units with variable frequency drives, improve cooling tower performance, optimize data center operating temperatures, and airflow management.
ComEd senior vice president of customer operations Val Jensen said: "We are pleased to offer our customers a suite of energy-efficient programs that provide sustainable solutions for homeowners and businesses in Illinois that help them significantly lower their energy use and meet sustainability goals.
