EDF Energies Nouvelles, the renewable energy arm of French utility EDF, has a 20.8% interest in C-Power. The company said that phase one of the consortium’s project will consist of installing six very high-power wind turbines by October 2008, each with a capacity of 5MW.
Ultimately, the future wind farm, which will be one of the largest in Europe, is likely to have 60 wind turbines with a maximum capacity of 300MW. The wind farm will involve investments of E150 million and construction of the entire project is set to take place until 2011 to 2012.
EDF Energy Nouvelles revealed that there will be three turnkey contracts in the build, the company’s first offshore project. German wind manufacturer REpower will supply the wind turbines and will also perform the operations and maintenance services.
Meanwhile, Dredging International will build the foundations and the Dredging and Fabricom GTI consortium will supply and install the electrical equipment.
EDF Energy Nouvelles said that the project provides an opportunity for the company to acquire knowledge and skills that could be useful in the development of other offshore wind farm projects in Europe.
