Enel’s CEO, Fulvio Conti, traveled to Bucharest to meet with Romanian institutions and outline the company’s strategy.
Enel’s E820 million acquisition of Romanian utility Electrica Muntenia Sud is due to be finalized shortly and the group revealed that it also plans to take part in other ongoing and forthcoming tenders.
These include the thermoelectric power plants in Braila and Doicesti and the nuclear power plant in Cernavoda. Enel has also voiced its intention to expand its footprint in Romania’s renewables sector through investing in wind farms.
The company is planning to invest an additional E2 billion in Romania’s distribution sector over the next 15 years. While E1 billion will be addressed to Enel Electrica Banat and Enel Electrica Dobrogea, the remaining E1 billion will be used to modernize Electrica Muntenia Sud’s network and improve its customer service.
Mr Conti commented: Our growth plans both in distribution and generation will contribute in making Romania the energy hub in the region, by reducing the country’s dependence on fuel imports and promoting a more balanced fuel mix and increased efficiency of power plants.
