The farm is comprised of 16 wind turbines, each with an output of 2MW, and will generate 107GWh of electricity a year. According to Electrabel, which is owned by French firm Suez, the farm will prevent the emission of 76,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
Electrabel’s E55 million acquisition of the farm is the company’s second ownership transfer with Gamesa. In 2005, an initial ownership transfer took place for the Fafe, Portugal wind farm, which is comprised of 40 turbines with a total generation capacity of 80MW.
Thanks to the new wind farm, Electrabel now has an installed wind power capacity of 450MW in Europe.
At the end of 2002, Electrabel and Gamesa signed a cooperation agreement for the development of projects in Portugal generating up to 214MW. As part of the agreement, Gamesa will develop and construct a number of wind farms, which will then be acquired by Electrabel over time, as and when they are commissioned.
According to Electrabel, the company’s renewable energy generation facilities currently produce the equivalent of the consumption of five million households, equal to all of its residential customers in Europe.
