URS Corporation has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Enmax Green Power to provide engineering, procurement, construction, startup, testing and commissioning services for a new 120MW simple-cycle power generation facility in Alberta, Canada.
According to URS, the natural gas-fired facility is located about 40km north of Calgary near the town of Crossfield, and it will supply power to the Alberta transmission system. The contract has a maximum value of approximately $54 million to URS.
Tom Zarges, president of URS’s Washington Division, said: “We are pleased to be a part of this project, which underscores the full range of services that URS can provide in the power sector.
“As a quick-start peaking facility, the Crossfield plant will provide essential electricity during times of high power demand. Customers throughout the region will benefit from the addition of this new generation capacity to Alberta’s electrical system.”
