Endesa said that the certification accredits the Northwest Hydro Production Unit’s activities to be environmentally friendly, in line with the company’s other hydro plants, which have also reached this level of environmental efficiency.
From its base in Ponferrada, the Northwest Hydro Production Unit manages 21 plants with a combined installed capacity of over 891MW. The plants are located in the provinces of Leon, Zamora, Ourense, A Coruna, Asturias and Cantabria in Spain.
Endesa said that the environmental management systems’ ultimate aim is to achieve continuous improvement in environmental matters, which benefits the company’s clients, shareholders and providers and, by extension, society as a whole.
This is achieved by ensuring that an up-to-date list of significant environmental issues related to the unit’s operations is maintained, in addition to any applicable environmental legal requirements, by setting environmental objectives and goals, and defining the duties and responsibilities of all personnel.
Endesa said that its full certification for environmental management in all areas of operation is part of its firm commitment to the environment, under the company’s strategic plan for the environment and sustainable development.
