Bord Gais Energy has announced its entry into Ireland’s residential electricity market with The Big Switch offering.

Bord Gais has said that the offer guarantees minimum savings of 10% on the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) rates for all customers in the first year, with a price guarantee of lower rates against any future changes in ESB prices.

Additional discounts are available to customers choosing to pay by direct debit and to existing Bord Gais Energy natural gas customers. Customers choosing to pay by direct debit or who are natural gas customers will get a 12% discount. Customers choosing to pay by direct debit and who are natural gas customers will get a 14% discount.

In August 2008, Bord Gais Energy carried out a successful pilot launch of its residential electricity offering with the Irish Farmers Association (IFA). Of the IFA’s 85,000 members, over 15,000 farmers have to date made the switch to electricity from Bord Gais Energy.
