The company said that the new-generation high-efficiency boilers will enable households and small businesses to generate both heat and electricity on the premises. The new boiler looks like a normal high-efficiency boiler but, as well as generating heat, it also generates enough power to meet an average household’s energy needs.
As a result, the boiler uses natural gas resources more efficiently, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are 25% lower than from a gas-fired power station, and 60% lower than from a conventional coal-fired power station, the company said.
According to Nuon, the fuel cell boiler will be easy to install as it uses the same pipes as existing high-efficiency boiler installations.

Nuon’s collaboration with CFCL and Remeha is based on its experience in energy saving and in investments in sustainable projects and technologies. Nuon is involved in developing thin-foil solar cells and has also invested in the offshore wind farm just off the Dutch coast at Egmond aan Zee, which can provide 100,000 households with sustainable energy.
