The GBP6 million investment will be split equally between two separate projects in the city, which will begin in August 2007, the EDF subsidiary said.

The first project includes the installation of more than 2,000m of underground cable in the Oundle Road area, which is needed to reinforce the electricity network in the area to accommodate the predicted increase in demand for service as the city develops. The work will begin in August and is expected to take five months to complete.

Work on a second project is also set to commence in early August to the east of the city at Peterborough East Grid Substation. This project is expected to last approximately 10 months.
