The hydro plants have been equipped with the most efficient and advanced technology to improve output and extend their lifespan.
The modernization program included the electromechanical reengineering of turbines and alternators as well as civil works to upgrade canals and weirs and the replacement of control systems.
The control systems have also been replaced as part of the project, which also included environmental and safety measures like increasing fish ladders at weirs and fences along canals.
Iberdrola operates 92 small hydro power plants in Spain with a combined installed capacity of 306MW at the end of the first half of 2014.
The company has upgraded facilities located in the autonomous regions of the Basque Country, Valencia, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Navarre and La Rioja.
Currently, Iberdrola manages 6,109MW of renewable energy portfolio in Spain.
