Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk told Russian news agency Itar-Tass: "The problem is that the [planned] units were designed according to Russian reactors, but we are finding a solution and intend to sign an agreement on the construction of new units by the end of this year.
"We have made a decision concerning the need to build new nuclear units.
Earlier, Ukraine signed a contract with Westinghouse for the delivery of nuclear fuel to the country’s nuclear power facilities. These facilities cater to the country’s 50% electricity requirements, World Nuclear News reported.
Interfax quoted Yatsenyuk as saying: "We are starting to get nuclear fuel not only from Russia."
In July, Ukraine nuclear power plant operator Energoatom president Yuri Nedashkovskiy said that the nation’s cabinet supports the plan to construct nuclear reactors using technology "of Western design".
