Almost 5km of overhead powerlines will be undergrounded and 100 streetlights replaced on both sides of Charters Towers Road between Bayswater Road and Bowen Road over the next three years.
Paul Ryan, general manager of northern operations, said: Ergon Energy through its community powerline project in a joint and cost sharing initiative with Townsville city council will undertake the work in stages over the next three years. In the first stage, 11,000 volt powerlines will be undergrounded from Bowen Road intersection through to the Philp Street intersection at Hermit Park.
