The new acquisitions mean that Iberdrola Renewables now has projects for 254MW of wind energy in Hungary, where earlier projects totaling 158MW have already been granted licenses to operate. The firm said that it sees Hungary as an attractive market since, at present, its operational wind farms total only 62MW.
At the close of the third quarter of 2007, Iberdrola Renewables had operational renewable energy capacity worldwide of 7,342MW, representing an 80% increase over the same period of 2006.
The company added new renewables capacity of 516MW in the third quarter and now has 7,000MW in wind farm capacity, 2,965MW of which is outside Spain and 342MW from small-scale hydroelectric plants.
Furthermore, Iberdrola Renewables added 162MW to its total wind power potential in thirteen Spanish regions in the first nine months of 2007: 98MW in Andalusia, 48MW in Castile and Leon, 12MW in Murcia and 4MW in the Basque Country.
