Gas Galicia, a subsidiary of Gas Natural, has announced plans to invest E32 million in Galicia, Spain, in 2009 to expand its transport and distribution networks and bring supplies to new towns in the region.
According to Gas Galicia, the investment effort will enable the company to add almost 230km to its distribution network, extending it to 2,250km in total and supplying over 9,500 new customers by the end of 2009.
The company said that it also plans to increase the number of supply points to 210,000 and extend coverage so that 60% of homes in Galicia will have access to natural gas.
In terms of new projects, the company plans to start supplying natural gas soon to Arcade, Pontevedra, via the Redondela branch pipeline, and will also inaugurate liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants Salvaterra do Mino, Carral and Ribeira, and Barreiros and Cervo.
Gas Galicia has said that it will inaugurate the Abedong-Betanzos branch pipeline and, in the next few months, expects to open the Betanzoz-Mino pipeline which will bring gas supplies to two municipalities in the A Coruna province.
This new agreement supported the development of phase IV of the Gas Infrastructure Plan, under which 19 million euros will be invested to bring natural gas to 25 new towns and villages, and a number of industrial estates, in the Autonomous Community.
