Fluor has announced that it has been awarded a contract for engineering, procurement and construction of Dominion Virginia Power’s new 580MW gas-fired, combined-cycle Bear Garden power station west of Richmond in Buckingham County, Virginia.
Fluor has said that it will book the undisclosed contract value in the first quarter of 2009. Dominion Virginia Power has said that its total project investment would be $619 million, which includes costs for certain major equipment that are not part of Fluor’s booked value.
According to the company, the new two-by-one combined cycle combustion turbine power facility will run primarily on natural gas with ultra low-sulfur diesel fuel as a backup. Fluor’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract scope will include the engineering, procurement and construction for the new facility, with Dominion Virginia Power providing the fuel, water, backfeed power and some of the major equipment. Final regulatory permits have been approved and construction activities have begun.
It said that commercial operation is expected in late summer of 2011. The new power station will be built on a site across the James River near Dominion’s current Bremo power station.
Dominion Virginia Power is a subsidiary of Dominion, engaged in production of energy, with a portfolio of more than 27,000 megawatts of generation. Dominion claims to serve retail energy customers in 12 states.
