The Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, situated in Western Australia, is expected to cost around $20 billion. The project is being developed by Chevron along with Shell and ExxonMobil as partners. The project has already received federal approval regarding environmental issues over the first production trains.
The initial planned capacity is 10 million tonnes of LNG per year. The joint venture partners are spending $20 million a month on design and engineering for the Gorgon Barrow Island project, according to the source.
Speaking to The Age, Colin Beckett, Chevron Australia’s general manager for the Gorgon project, said: We are ramping up our manpower and investment spends as we speak. We wouldn’t do that if it was not seen to be a robust use of our funds.
